An abdominoplasty tightens the abdominal musculature, removes skin excess, and improves the waistline. It is frequently done after childbirth to improve deformities that a patient cannot improve with diet and exercise. It is best to be at your ideal weight and a weight that is easy to maintain.

The Procedure
A tummy tuck improves the contour of the abdomen. Liposuction is typically used to reduce the flanks and improve the waistline. The skin from the belly button down to the pubic bone is removed. Any stretch marks in the lower abdominal skin will be removed. The rectus muscles are brought together in the middle and the skin is pulled down. The belly button is brought up through the skin that has been pulled down. Drains are typically placed.
